Introduction

In this podcast, 21 year old David from London, talks to Jessica Okoro about his love for accountancy, the apprenticeship program at PwC and his career plans.

Segment 1: Ice breaker

Like most kids, David too aspired to be a teacher or a doctor. But as he grew up watching his family members, David shares that he was intrigued by accountancy. He looked up to accountants as “trusted business advisors”. He reveals that like every one of us, he also was uncomfortable with maths but after hard work numbers started flowing down. Explaining the facets of accountancy, David specifies that along with Mathematics, accountants need to learn skills to present data that is easy to decipher. David shares that he was initially placed at PwC Belfast, but later to explore further opportunities in London, he shifted to PwC London. Adding to it, he is happy about his decision to take up the apprenticeship program at PwC as it has ensured job security.

Segment 2: Game Changer

On being asked about his decision to take up PwC, David shares that he made a deliberate choice of joining PwC. This was such a program where he could rotate, be a part of different teams, and finally chose the one which interested him the most. He also adds that at PwC candidates are assigned extremely supportive career coaches and the program is structured to build the best skills. David illustrates that trainees get to meet and interact with clients regularly, he adds that this process is extremely rewarding.

Segment 3: The future

Speaking about his transitioning from apprentice to graduate program, David finds manifold increase opportunities in this step. Five years from now, he aims to professionally grow as a Chartered Accountant, train juniors, and steadily move up the ranks at PwC. While on the personal front he wishes to travel and interact with people. He ends by giving snippets of information on the application, interview processes, and having a positive mindset before approaching the interview.
