The Future of Tech is Female

When you search for ‘top 10 tech CEOs’ on the internet, unsurprisingly only male names appear, confirming the male predominancy on corporate ladders. Yet change is brewing.

Today, there are many women whose decisions and actions are poised to have a lasting impact on the global tech-business. The new head of eBay North America, the COO of Facebook, the manager of Google’s ad-selling platforms, the co-CEO of Oracle, and well-known tech bankers and venture capitalists. All women who have triumphed over discrimination to reach heights unimaginable just a few years ago.

Over the last decade, women have taken on diverse roles ranging from Data Analyst, IT Project Manager, Technology Consulting Manager, to Lead of Development and Head of Technology. Workforce data from several countries shows that a third of Engineering Technicians are female, and women now account for 20% of Social-Ecological-Technological (SET) Managers. Women reaching senior positions exemplify the innovation, leadership and perseverance that are driving positive change in the tech sector.

Numerous Women in Tech Awards are being held around the world to celebrate all the women who made significant strides in the field. Like Lisa Su, one of Forbes’ Most Powerful Women in Tech who refined AMD cloud computing with avant-garde semiconductors processors; Debbie Weinstein, who launched AI-driven marketing on YouTube and Google Ads; and Cassie Kozyrkov, Google’s First Chief Decision Scientist and AI advisor pioneer for major tech firms. Like Mira Murati, lead developer of ChatGPT and founder of a startup for ethical AI alignment; Joelle Pineau, who advanced Meta’s AI capabilities; and Jaime Teevan, who innovated Microsoft’s automated tools and introduced responsible use of AI.

Women don’t just participate in tech innovation, they lead it. Women have long been at the heart of AI’s development and are now at the forefront in driving AI strategies, advancing foundational research, and building transformative companies. Women play a significant role in shaping global AI policies, contributing to regulatory discussions on AI ethics in healthcare, education, and autonomous systems.

Statistics also show that women-led Silicon Valley start-ups are exponentially growing. Women are analysing, coding, brainstorming, inventing solutions, leading teams. They set the course and shape the future.

Women today are protagonists in the tech industry. By acknowledging their achievements, we inspire young girls to pursue STEM studies, challenge gender biases, and innovate for a better future.
